Naidu tells officials to turn Andhra investment MoUs into operational projects
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday directed officials to focus on translating investment agreements signed by the State into operational projects and to ensure that the units begin production.
The direction was given at the 22nd meeting of the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), which Mr. Naidu chaired at his camp office. Officials informed the board that work had been initiated on 519 of the 714 investment agreements signed earlier.
The meeting discussed investment proposals across industries, energy, tourism, Information Technology, electronics, food processing and infrastructure.
Mr. Naidu called for the establishment of a world-class international convention centre in Visakhapatnam to facilitate the hosting of investment summits. He also stressed the importance of investment, infrastructure development and food processing in developing the Rayalaseema region into a global horticulture hub.
Emphasising connectivity as a key component of the State's logistics infrastructure, the Chief Minister asked officials to focus on ports, airports, road and rail networks, and east-west connectivity.
The Chief Minister also called for the development of a semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh, with manufacturing units forming part of the broader industrial network.
Ministers Nara Lokesh, T.G. Bharath, Anagani Satya Prasad, Gottipati Ravi Kumar, P. Narayana and Kandula Durgesh, along with officials from various departments, attended the meeting virtually.
The SIPB review covered proposals at different stages of implementation. While the board was told that work had begun on a majority of the agreements, the meeting focused on the next step: ensuring that projects move from agreements to operations. The Chief Minister's direction underlined the importance of follow-through, so that signed investments lead to production and economic activity.
The review was part of the board's periodic assessment of investment proposals. The meeting examined sector-wise progress and the steps needed to ensure that commitments made through agreements are followed up with implementation on the ground.
Investment agreements, or Memoranda of Understanding, set out the broad terms of a proposed investment. Converting them into operational projects involves land, approvals, utilities and construction, among other steps. The SIPB meeting reviewed these proposals across sectors to assess progress and identify what is needed to move them forward.
The discussions also covered the role of infrastructure in supporting industry. Ports, airports, roads and rail links are part of the logistics chain that helps units receive inputs and send goods to markets. The Chief Minister's remarks on east-west connectivity reflected this focus on linking production centres with transport networks.
For Rayalaseema, the meeting highlighted horticulture as a priority area. Food processing and infrastructure development were identified as important for building a horticulture hub. In Visakhapatnam, the proposed international convention centre is intended to support investment summits and related events.
The semiconductor proposal was discussed as part of a wider industrial ecosystem. The Chief Minister asked officials to develop manufacturing units within the broader industrial network, according to the information shared at the meeting.
The meeting was attended virtually by the Ministers and department officials. The SIPB review covered investment proposals and their implementation.
