Nagpur: On-Duty Policeman Assaulted, Dragged from Car in Road Rage Incident
In a shocking incident of road rage in Nagpur, a group of men on motorcycles allegedly blocked a policeman's car, dragged him out, and assaulted him in public view. The episode, which occurred on the night of June 28, was captured on CCTV.
The 35-year-old policeman, who was on duty, was driving his private car towards Mankapur Chowk with a female friend when around seven to eight youths on motorcycles reportedly stopped his vehicle. The accused purportedly parked their bikes in front of the car, began abusing the policeman, and then vandalised the vehicle and assaulted him on the road.
The CCTV footage shows the attackers dragging the policeman from his car and pulling him to the other side of the road while hitting him. One of the assailants is seen kicking the policeman in the face as he sits on the road. The group also damaged the car before fleeing on their bikes.
The policeman sustained serious injuries and was taken to a private hospital with the help of locals. He is currently undergoing treatment.
Police launched an investigation immediately after the incident was reported. Using CCTV footage and other technical evidence, they identified and detained 14 accused. The arrested individuals have been identified as Harsh Pawar, Gaurav Dhirde, Sanyam Ganeshpuri, Yas Prateki, Satyam Shirke, Premraj Dhakate, Akash Bokade, Nitin Gokhale, Vicky Telghare, Bhumi Dev alias Sagar Bokde, Ganesh Uike, Pritam Modekar, and Tikaram Barapatre.
According to police, some of the accused have prior criminal records. Authorities have also recovered five two-wheelers and goods worth approximately Rs 5.6 lakh from them.
The incident has raised questions about the safety of law enforcement personnel on duty. Further investigations are underway.
