Commercial Tax Officer dies after argument with wife over retirement assets; woman held

In Husnabad town of Siddipet district, a 60-year-old Commercial Tax Officer (CTO) died in a hospital after an alleged attack by his wife during a dispute over retirement benefits and assets. The police have taken the woman into custody and are investigating the incident.

The deceased was identified as Venkatesham, who was posted as a Commercial Tax Officer in Asifabad and was due to retire from service this month. The accused, Rajamani, works as an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and is the first wife of the victim, according to police.

Police said the couple quarrelled at their residence in Hanuman Nagar, Husnabad, over Venkatesham's retirement funds and other property. The argument escalated, and Rajamani allegedly attacked him with a stone, leaving him seriously injured.

Venkatesham was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed, pending a post-mortem examination, police added.

Following the incident, police registered a case against Rajamani and took her into custody. Further investigation is under way, including recording statements from neighbours and family members.

According to police, Venkatesham had two wives, and Rajamani was his first wife. The dispute over retirement benefits and assets is believed to be the trigger, though officials said they are verifying all angles and have not yet established a conclusive motive.

The incident has drawn attention to domestic disputes that can turn fatal, particularly in cases involving property and financial matters. Police officials have urged families to resolve such disagreements through mediation and legal channels instead of resorting to violence.

The accused is expected to be produced before a local court as part of the legal process. Authorities have not disclosed further details, stating that the investigation is at an early stage.
