NAFED to Allocate 1% Profit for Education of Farmers' Children, Announces Amit Shah
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched four new initiatives by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), including a commitment to set aside 1% of the organisation's profits for higher education scholarships and career development of children from farming families.
The unveiled initiatives are: Nafex.in, an agricultural e-auction platform; Drishti, an inventory management system; NAFED's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution; and NAFED Kalyan, a scholarship programme for farmers' children.
Speaking at the event, Shah noted that while the output of pulses and oilseeds has increased in recent years, self-sufficiency remains elusive because minimum support prices have not consistently reached growers. He emphasised the need to eliminate middlemen, stating that both NAFED and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF) should procure pulses and oilseeds directly from farmers to ensure the benefits of support prices reach producers.
The scholarship initiative is expected to provide financial assistance for higher education and skill development, aiming to uplift the next generation of farming families.
