Monsoon Takes a Week-Long Break Across Most of India, East and Northeast Prepare for Heavy Rains

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that monsoon rainfall will take a week-long break across most parts of the country, including the southern peninsula, northwest, and central India. This follows a reduction in the nationwide rain deficit from 40% in June to 15% in July as of Sunday.

Meanwhile, a fresh cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh around July 14, bringing heightened rainfall to eastern and northeastern India. 'The impact of this system will remain limited to eastern and northeastern India regions,' said Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of IMD.

On Sunday, several areas in Meghalaya recorded extremely heavy rain. The IMD has forecast similar intense spells over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, and Mizoram until Wednesday.
