Monsoon Advances North as Arunachal Floods Leave Nine Missing; Heatwave Warning Issued
Nine persons have gone missing after flash floods triggered by the Sisiri river in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Dibang Valley district. Rescue operations suffered a setback when an inflated rubber boat carrying seven search team members and three rescued persons was swept away by strong currents.
The district administration has intensified efforts to locate the missing and evacuate stranded individuals, using boats and three elephants to reach flood-hit and difficult terrains.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further into several northern states over the next five to six days. The monsoon is expected to move into parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and southeast Rajasthan in the coming days.
Delhi recorded its warmest morning in two years amid the delayed monsoon, with temperatures soaring. The IMD has also warned of heatwave conditions, possibly severe, in Uttar Pradesh on July 28 and 29.
Private weather agency Skymet predicts that Delhi may see monsoon arrival by July 4 if conditions remain favourable.
