Minor Rape Survivor Gives Birth in Haryana, Accused Driver Arrested
An 11-year-old rape survivor delivered a baby girl at the District Civil Hospital in Yamunanagar, Haryana, on Wednesday, hospital officials confirmed. The delivery was normal, and both the mother and the newborn are in stable condition under medical observation.
Dr Jatinder Singh, the Chief Medical Officer of Yamunanagar, stated that the minor and her baby are expected to be discharged within two to three days. According to a police official, the family has consented to hand over the infant to the Child Welfare Committee.
The pregnancy was discovered in May when the girl fell ill and complained of stomach pain at school. Her family took her to a hospital, where doctors confirmed she was seven months pregnant. Subsequently, the family filed a complaint at the Chhachhrauli police station.
Investigations revealed that the accused, a driver for a pharmaceutical company in the Chhachhrauli area, had repeatedly sexually abused the minor since November 2022, luring her and threatening her with death if she disclosed the abuse. A case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant laws. The accused was arrested and sent to judicial custody.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about child sexual abuse and the need for stringent enforcement of laws protecting minors. Authorities have not disclosed further details to protect the identity of the survivor.
