Maharashtra FDA Seizes 2,000 Litres of Adulterated Milk, 320 kg Dairy Products in Statewide Raids
In a major crackdown on food safety violations, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Thursday, July 9, seized and destroyed nearly 2,000 litres of milk and 320 kilograms of dairy products, including basundi and ice cream, in raids across the state.
The total volume of intercepted goods was 2,272 kg/litres, with the FDA acting on intelligence to prevent adulterated products from reaching consumers. The operation covered multiple locations, including Mumbai, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon, and Ghatkopar.
Specifically, 210 litres of raw milk were seized in Mumbai, 1,266 litres of cow's milk from two dairies in Ahilyanagar, 238 litres of mixed milk in Jalgaon, and 160 kg each of basundi and ice cream from a dairy in Ghatkopar. All seized items were destroyed on the spot.
The FDA officials suspect the products were adulterated or unsafe for consumption. The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to enforce food safety standards and protect public health. No arrests have been reported so far.
