Maharashtra draft voter list out: Check your name, file claims by Sept 30

The Election Commission of India has published the draft electoral roll for all 288 Assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The draft, released on August 31, includes the names of 7.71 crore voters out of the 9.78 crore who were on the rolls before the revision — meaning about 78.86% of the earlier electorate is covered in the draft.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Maharashtra, the draft includes approximately 3.95 crore male voters, 3.75 crore female voters and 3,087 third-gender voters. The remaining 2.08 crore voters (21.14% of the pre-revision electorate) have been left out of the draft for reasons such as shifting of residence, death, duplicate entries, or non-receipt of enumeration forms. The CEO has also published a separate list of voters who were on the earlier rolls but are not part of the SIR 2026 draft.

Voters can check whether their names appear in the draft by visiting the Election Commission of India’s Voter Service Portal. The portal also allows users to access facilities related to the ongoing SIR exercise and new voter registration.

Those whose names are missing from the draft, as well as new voters who will turn 18 on or before the qualifying date of October 1, 2026, can submit Form 6 along with the required declaration during the claims and objections period, which runs from August 31 to September 30. After verification, the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will decide on each application, and eligible voters will be included in the final electoral roll.

Voters can file objections to any entry in the draft through Form 7. Those seeking corrections to details such as name, address, age or gender can use Form 8. All forms are available on the Voter Service Portal.

The disposal of claims, objections and notices will continue until October 29. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4.

If an application for inclusion or correction is rejected due to missing documents, the applicant can submit a fresh application with the required documents or appeal under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The Election Commission has warned that making a false declaration while applying for inclusion, correction or deletion in the electoral roll can lead to imprisonment of up to one year, a fine, or both, under Section 31 of the same Act.

As part of the SIR exercise, 394 new polling stations have been created, while 431 were removed due to a decrease in voters. The total number of polling stations now stands at 1,00,216. Additionally, the locations of 1,403 polling stations have been changed, including shifting stations from temporary structures to permanent buildings within the same area, in line with the Election Commission’s instructions.
