Kota Priest Murder: 26 Stab Wounds, Land Dispute at 10th-Century Math

KOTA, June 26: A priest in Kota was found dead with 26 stab wounds, police said on Friday, as investigators focus on a power struggle over 215 acres of land belonging to a 10th-century math. The brutality of the killing has brought a long-simmering dispute over the religious institution's land holdings into the spotlight.

In Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday, fuelling speculation of an imminent Union Cabinet reshuffle. The government has not officially confirmed the meeting's agenda.

The priest's murder occurred late Thursday night at the math premises in Kota. Police have registered a case and are probing multiple angles, including the land dispute. The math controls extensive land holdings, and the deceased was reportedly involved in managing the property.

Meanwhile, political circles in Delhi are abuzz with talk of a cabinet reshuffle ahead of the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. Shah's meeting with the President is seen by many as a precursor to changes in the Union Council of Ministers. However, official sources have declined to comment.
