Kolkata Political Wing Seeks Rally Permission, Backs Student Protest Over NEET Leak
Kolkata Police has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in BBD Bag and College Street areas for two months, restricting assemblies.
The Kolkata wing of a political party has sought police permission to hold a rally in response to a nationwide protest called by the party. Meanwhile, the Students Federation of India (SFI) has planned a protest march demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak issue and condemning police action against protesters during the July 20 'Sansad Chalo' rally in Delhi.
A party member, Dedipya Ganguly, said the outfit has sent two emails to Kolkata Police and is yet to receive a response. “We wrote twice to Kolkata Police for permission and also received a call from the Special Branch regarding this. However, after an initial enquiry about our planned march, there was no further communication from police. We have not been granted any permission yet. We will be supporting the student rally instead,” she told The Indian Express.
