Kerala High Court Seeks Centre's Reply on CBI Probe into ₹700 Crore Fake Defence Contract Scam
The Kerala High Court has directed the Union government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to respond to a petition seeking a CBI inquiry into a ₹700-crore scam. The scam allegedly involved a private firm that promised investors lucrative returns from defence contracts with the United States armed forces.
The court issued the order on a plea filed by A. Harikrishnan, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram, who claimed he lost ₹1 crore in the fraudulent scheme. The petitioner argued that the scale and interstate nature of the fraud warranted a CBI investigation.
According to the petition, the private firm claimed it had secured the defence contracts under a purported secretive Indo-US Pacific Peace Treaty. Investors from Kerala and other states collectively invested ₹700 crore in the project, which later turned out to be a scam.
The High Court also directed the Kerala state government to submit a report on the progress of the ongoing police investigation into the matter. The case has been listed for further hearing on August 18.
