Grandmother and two granddaughters killed by train near Doddaballapur
Three members of a family — a woman and her two granddaughters — died after being struck by an express train near the railway track between Doddaballapur and Muttur on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Irfana, 46, and her granddaughters Rukhiya, 13, and Raziya, 8, residents of Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh. According to preliminary information, the children had come to their grandmother's house in Doddaballapur for the holidays and were returning home when the incident occurred.
The family was walking towards Doddaballapur railway station from Muttur when they entered the railway track. At that spot, two railway tracks meet at a curve, and the three reportedly did not notice the approaching express train. The train, travelling at high speed, ran over them, killing all three on the spot.
Police said Irfana appeared to be in a hurry to catch a train at the station. She was crossing the track while holding the girls' hands. Passers-by who noticed the danger shouted to warn her, but she did not stop, according to eyewitnesses. The impact was severe, and the bodies were badly mutilated.
Railway police visited the scene and conducted an inspection. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Yeshwantpur Railway Police Station. Further investigation is under way.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers of trespassing on railway tracks. Authorities have repeatedly advised the public to use designated crossings and foot overbridges. It is particularly important for those travelling with children to remain alert near tracks and follow safety guidelines.
