Karnataka partners with Anthropic to explore AI in governance, launch Claude certifications

The Karnataka government has announced a partnership with US artificial intelligence firm Anthropic to explore the use of AI in governance. On Saturday, the state decided to form two joint working groups with the company, consisting of officials from the state's Centre for E-governance and the Home Department. These groups will identify areas where AI can be implemented in the two departments.

Priyank Kharge, Karnataka's Minister of Home Affairs and Information Technology, made the announcement after visiting Anthropic's Bengaluru office. He stated, 'We also discussed expanding AI skilling across Karnataka through Claude certifications for students, professionals and enterprises, enabling startups and developers in our ecosystem to leverage Anthropic’s AI tools and exchanged ideas on their AI for Science and Claude for Education programmes.'

The partnership reflects Karnataka's ongoing efforts to integrate cutting-edge technology into public services. Anthropic, known for its AI model Claude, has been expanding its presence in India. The certifications are expected to enhance digital skills and potentially create a talent pool for AI-driven governance initiatives.

While the specifics of the working groups are yet to be detailed, the move signals a step towards leveraging AI to improve efficiency and service delivery in key state departments. The government has not disclosed a timeline for the rollout of the certifications or the implementation of AI tools.
