Jalandhar: Govt course offers women caregiving jobs with Rs 25,000 salary
A skill development programme under the government's Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative has provided 30 women from economically weaker sections with training in newborn and child care, leading to a job offer of Rs 25,000 per month for one participant even before course completion.
Amandeep Kaur, a Class XII graduate with a diploma in computer applications, had been struggling to find stable employment. She enrolled in the two-month course organised by the District Administration of Jalandhar, the Punjab Skill Development Mission, and Satyam Group of Institutes. 'I wanted to learn a skill that could help me earn a livelihood. This course has given me both confidence and employment opportunities,' she said.
The programme, conducted under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) scheme, aims to equip women with professional caregiving skills while creating direct employment links. The initiative addresses the dual challenge of female unemployment and the growing demand for trained nannies in urban households.
Participants receive training in essential newborn care, child nutrition, safety protocols, and basic health monitoring. The curriculum also includes soft skills and communication to prepare them for domestic employment.
District officials stated that the programme is part of broader efforts to promote women's economic empowerment. Similar courses are being planned in other districts of Punjab, with potential expansion to cover elderly care and other allied services.
The success of this batch highlights how targeted skill development can create immediate employment opportunities for women from modest backgrounds. With the job offer already secured, Amandeep Kaur is set to begin her role as a trained caregiver, reflecting the programme's objective of linking training with tangible livelihoods.
