Israel Says Hezbollah Breached Ceasefire with Drone Strike in South Lebanon

The Israeli military accused Hezbollah of violating a recently signed ceasefire agreement on Wednesday, stating that the Lebanese group launched an explosive drone toward an Israeli engineering vehicle in southern Lebanon.

According to a statement from the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), the incident occurred in the Ali al-Taher Ridge area, which lies within a 10-kilometre-deep security zone along the Israel-Lebanon border where Israeli troops are still operating. The military described the drone launch as a “blatant violation of the ceasefire” but confirmed that no Israeli soldiers were injured.

“Our troops continue to operate in the ridge area and will not allow terrorists to advance or execute attacks against IDF soldiers,” the statement said.

The ceasefire agreement, brokered by the United States and signed last month, requires the Lebanese army to disarm Hezbollah and the Israeli military to withdraw from designated “pilot zones”, where Lebanese forces will then deploy. The deal followed more than three months of fighting that began on 2 March 2026, when Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel in support of Tehran, triggering major Israeli airstrikes and a ground invasion into southern Lebanon.

Since the ceasefire took effect, violence has decreased, but Lebanon has continued to report intermittent Israeli strikes and artillery shelling in the south. On Sunday, the Lebanese army condemned ongoing Israeli military activities that it said were preventing its full deployment under the agreement.

Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for any attacks since 20 June.
