Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei Pledges 'Jihad and Resistance' to Hezbollah Against Israel and US
Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has expressed unwavering support for Lebanon's Hezbollah group, urging continued 'jihad and resistance' against Israel and the United States. In a message posted on the social media platform X, Khamenei addressed Hezbollah's Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem and the group's fighters, reiterating Tehran's strategic commitment to the group's defence.
Khamenei stated that 'there remains no path forward except jihad and resistance' and linked any resolution to Iran's conflict with the US to a complete halt in Israeli military operations in Lebanon. His remarks came in response to a letter from Hezbollah pledging allegiance to Iran's Islamic Republic.
The Iranian leader described Hezbollah as an 'unyielding rock' and a forerunner in jihad against Israeli aggression, claiming that the group's steadfastness serves as an 'inspiring message for the world's free nations seeking liberation from global arrogance.' He also paid tribute to former Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and other fighters killed in US-Israeli attacks, noting that their sacrifices elevated the group 'from a sapling into a mighty tree.'
Khamenei's message aligns with the long-standing policy of his father, the former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who defined support for Hezbollah as a strategic mandate for Iran. He concluded with prayers for Hezbollah's forces, veterans, displaced civilians, and martyrs' families, expressing confidence in their ultimate success.
Hezbollah, designated as a terrorist organization by the United States and other countries, has been a key proxy for Iran in the region. The group has been involved in ongoing hostilities with Israel, including recent exchanges of fire along the Lebanon-Israel border. The conflict has raised fears of a broader regional war.
