Iran warns war in West Asia will widen if US resumes attacks on Tehran
Iran's army has warned that the conflict in West Asia would expand further if the United States chooses to resume attacks on the Islamic republic. The warning came ahead of a planned visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Washington.
Army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia told state television on Sunday that if the Americans once again fall for what he called the Zionists' deception, or move in line with them, and insist on continuing the war, particularly through air strikes, geographically this will expand further.
Akraminia said the war had already expanded to the Bab al-Mandab Strait at the entrance of the Red Sea, referencing recent military clashes between Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia.
He added that the scope of Iran's operations now encompasses the entire region, from U.S. bases in Jordan to countries along the Persian Gulf.
The spokesman described the situation for the United States in West Asia as difficult and unsettled, predicting that Washington is looking for a new strategy. He stated that Iran is prepared for any options or scenarios that appear likely.
On Friday, Israel announced that Netanyahu will meet U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday. The visit is expected to focus on regional security and bilateral relations.
