Iran claims missile strike on US jets in Jordan, warns of more retaliation
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has asserted that it targeted American fighter jets and tankers stationed in Jordan, according to a statement carried by Iranian state media. The IRGC claimed that the attack involved 'several ballistic missiles and numerous drones' and resulted in the 'destruction of several American tankers and fighter jets and serious damage to many more.' The group also warned the United States and other nations hosting American bases that 'further attacks on Iran will trigger more crushing retaliation.'
The United States has not yet commented on the claim, which could not be independently verified. The IRGC's statement was accompanied by a social media post from a pro-Iran account showing a video of what it said was the strike.
Iran separately claimed to have destroyed High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) platforms and missiles in attacks on Kuwait at several locations, where Tehran said American forces and Israeli-backed fighters are stationed. The IRGC said these attacks eliminated 'a large number of anti-revolutionaries and American special forces' and that 'tit-for-tat operations are ongoing.'
The conflict has widened over the past week. The United States on Friday expanded its strikes against Iran, hitting more bridges and infrastructure to pressure Tehran to ease its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran launched new missile attacks against US-allied nations, including Qatar. The Revolutionary Guards also extended their attacks to the Kurdish region of northern Iraq and a US special operations command centre in Syria.
These developments come amid heightened tensions between the US and Iran, with both sides engaging in military actions that risk further escalation. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments, remains a flashpoint. No independent confirmation of the Iranian claims has been possible, and the full extent of damage remains unclear.
