India's 'Vishwaguru' Role Rooted in Service, Not Superpower Ambition: RSS Chief Bhagwat
Mohan Bhagwat, chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), said on Sunday in Toronto that India has achieved the status of 'Vishwaguru' (world teacher) through its tradition of service, rather than by seeking superpower status. He was speaking at an event attended by members of the Indian diaspora in Canada.
Bhagwat emphasised that India's global standing is not defined by military or economic might alone, but by its civilisational values and commitment to the welfare of all. 'India became a Vishwaguru through service, not by pursuing superpower status,' he said, according to reports from the event.
The RSS chief elaborated on the concept of Vishwaguru, a term often used in Hindu nationalist discourse to describe India's role as a spiritual and cultural guide for the world. He said India's ancient traditions of knowledge, compassion and harmony offer practical solutions to contemporary global challenges, from climate change to social inequality.
