India's Operation Amistad: Venezuelan Minister Praises Field Hospital for Quake Relief

Venezuela has expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Indian medical team assisting victims of the powerful earthquakes that struck the South American nation, claiming over 1,700 lives.

Under Operation Amistad, the Indian Army established a field hospital staffed by highly experienced doctors at the International La Rinconada Racetrack in Caracas. The Indian Embassy in Venezuela stated on Monday (June 29, 2026) that India has intensified its disaster relief efforts, offering “a healing touch to those affected by the earthquake.”

“Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Minister, Andrea Corao Faria, visited our Field Hospital and appreciated our efforts to help the earthquake victims,” the Indian mission said.

The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, struck on Wednesday evening (June 24, 2026) and were among the strongest recorded in Venezuela in over a century. The tremors were felt across the region.

As of Monday, the death toll from the two quakes has surpassed 1,700, with thousands injured and many more reported missing.

Under Operation Amistad, two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft transported 66 tonnes of aid, including the Indian Army field hospital, over 35 tonnes of relief supplies, medicines, medical equipment, and two BHISHM Cubes, the Indian Air Force said on Sunday (June 28, 2026).

BHISHM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita & Maitri) cubes are mobile hospitals designed to provide emergency medical care. Working alongside Venezuelan authorities, Indian rescue and medical teams are offering emergency medical care and conducting search and rescue operations, the Indian mission added.
