India's 350 kmph Bullet Train: NHSRCL Begins Capability Assessment for B35 Trainsets
The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has initiated a capability assessment for the development of B35 bullet trainsets, designed to operate at speeds of up to 350 kmph. The ‘B35’ stands for a Bharat-made trainset that will have an operational speed of 320 kmph.
According to official sources, these trainsets are planned for deployment across all proposed high-speed rail corridors in the country, including the Mumbai-Pune, Pune-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Bengaluru, Hyderabad-Chennai, Chennai-Bengaluru, Delhi-Varanasi, and Varanasi-Siliguri routes.
The B35 trainsets will also eventually run on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, India’s first bullet train project, where construction is progressing rapidly. However, services on that corridor will initially begin with B28 trainsets before the next-generation B35 trains are introduced.
This capability assessment marks a key step towards indigenous manufacturing of high-speed trains, aligning with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The NHSRCL is expected to evaluate technical requirements, manufacturing capacity, and safety standards to ensure the trainsets meet global benchmarks.
