Indian Railways considers unified RRB portal to streamline recruitment

The Ministry of Railways is examining the feasibility of a single, unified online portal for all Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), aiming to make the recruitment process more efficient and coordinated across the country, a senior Railway Board official has confirmed.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official told Indianexpress.com that the proposal is currently under discussion. “Yes, the launch of a unified RRB portal is under discussion. It is being considered to ensure better coordination,” he said.

At present, recruitment for various posts in Indian Railways is handled by 21 separate RRBs located across different zones. Each RRB has its own chairman, member secretary, assistant secretary, and supporting non-gazetted staff. These boards operate independently, managing recruitment for their respective regions.

A unified portal would integrate all these platforms, potentially simplifying the application process for candidates, reducing duplication of effort, and improving transparency. It could also help in standardizing procedures and reducing delays.

The move is part of broader efforts by Indian Railways to modernise its human resources processes. However, the official cautioned that the plan is still in the discussion stage and no final decision has been taken yet. Further details, including the timeline and cost implications, are expected to be worked out once the proposal receives formal approval.

Indian Railways is one of the largest employers in the world, and its recruitment drives attract millions of applicants each year. Streamlining the process through a single portal could benefit both the organisation and job seekers by making information and applications more accessible.
