Indian National Sentenced to 4 Years, 8 Months for Fatal California Chain-Reaction Crash

A 21-year-old Indian national and commercial truck driver, Jashanpreet Singh, has been sentenced to four years and eight months in a California state prison after pleading guilty to three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. The sentencing took place on July 14 before San Bernardino County Superior Court Judge Shannon L. Faherty.

The case stems from a deadly chain-reaction crash on October 21, 2025, on the westbound Interstate 10 Freeway in Ontario, California, near the Milliken offramp. Singh was driving a red semi-truck when traffic ahead slowed or stopped. According to witnesses and investigators, his truck did not brake, swerve, or take evasive action. It struck slowed vehicles at high speed, triggering an eight-vehicle pileup involving his semi-truck, three other semi-trucks, two pickup trucks, and two cars.

The hearing was attended by families of the victims, some of whom delivered victim impact statements. Several injured victims were also present in court. The sentence reflects Singh's guilty plea and the severity of the offenses, which resulted in loss of life and significant injuries.

Authorities emphasized that the crash was preventable and highlighted the importance of attentive driving, especially for commercial vehicle operators. The case serves as a sobering reminder of the consequences of negligence on the road.
