India Objects to Chinese Projects on Its Territory in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh
New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday accused China of violating India's sovereignty, stating that Beijing is 'illegally occupying' Indian territories in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
At a weekly press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the government objects to Chinese infrastructure projects being built on Indian land. 'EAM said that when it comes to sovereignty issues, it is actually India that should be and is raising them. India does not violate China’s sovereignty in any manner and has been consistent,' Jaiswal stated.
'But China has been in illegal occupation of Indian territories in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh since 1963, where India’s right is officially acknowledged even by China. There are Chinese projects on territories in Jammu and Kashmir that belong to India, and we object to that,' he added.
India has consistently maintained that parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been under Chinese control since the 1962 war and subsequent agreements. The MEA's remarks come amid ongoing tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, where military standoffs have occurred in recent years.
China has not officially responded to the latest Indian objection. The dispute over the Aksai Chin region and other areas remains unresolved, with both countries claiming parts of the territory.
