India boosts domestic cardiac care with new cath lab manufacturing licence at AMTZ
Innvolution Healthcare Private Limited (IHPL) has received a manufacturing licence from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) to produce cardiac catheterisation laboratories (cath labs) at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ). The facility, recently inaugurated by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, marks a significant step towards strengthening India's capacity to manufacture advanced cardiac imaging systems domestically.
This development comes amid a severe shortfall in cardiovascular infrastructure in India. Cardiovascular diseases claim nearly three million lives annually and affect an estimated 80 million patients. Currently, the country has only about 4,000 active cardiac cath labs, severely limiting access to advanced cardiac care. Experts believe that shifting from expensive imported systems to locally manufactured equipment will make treatments more affordable and expand their reach.
The cardiac care segment is one of India's fastest-growing medical device markets. Globally, the market for cath lab equipment and consumables is projected to grow from approximately $30-32 billion in 2026 to $50-55 billion over the next decade. Local production of these systems is expected to strengthen supply chains, create skilled jobs, reduce import dependence, and enhance India's global competitiveness in medical technology.
Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO of AMTZ, hailed the achievement as a reflection of the growing maturity of India's MedTech ecosystem. 'At AMTZ, we remain committed to enabling world-class innovation and manufacturing that positions India as a global leader in advanced medical technologies,' he said.
Gaurav Agarwal, Managing Director of Innvolution Healthcare, highlighted the collaborative environment at the zone. 'The infrastructure and support available at AMTZ have enabled us to establish our cath lab manufacturing facility, and we remain committed to delivering reliable, high-quality solutions that meet the evolving needs of India's healthcare sector,' he stated.
