IMD Predicts Below-Normal Rainfall for Andhra Pradesh in July
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast below-normal to normal rainfall for Andhra Pradesh in July, with most parts of the state expected to receive less rain than usual.
According to the rainfall outlook released on June 30, isolated areas in Rayalaseema and along the coastal belt may receive normal rainfall, while the rest of the state is likely to experience below-normal precipitation.
Like much of the country, Andhra Pradesh may also see above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures this month, though meteorologists have not yet specified the exact deviation. 'We can expect some days to be hotter than normal and others cooler. The focus has shifted from temperatures to rainfall activity,' said S. Karunasagar, senior scientist at IMD Amaravati.
Experts are monitoring rainfall patterns, which are influenced by El Niño conditions that are expected to strengthen in August and September. In June, the state received approximately normal rainfall as predicted. Alluri Sitharama Raju district recorded a large excess, while Parvathipuram Manyam, Srikakulam, Annamayya, and West Godavari districts reported deficient rainfall from June 1 to 30. Other districts saw normal or excess precipitation.
On June 30, most parts of the state experienced a dry day, except for Visakhapatnam district which received light showers. Thunderstorm activity and light showers are expected until July 3, with isolated heavy rainfall warnings for coastal Andhra Pradesh from July 4.
