IMD forecasts heavy rain in Assam, Bengal, and more states; heatwave continues in Delhi and UP
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, in several parts of West Bengal on Sunday. The monsoon is advancing through Surat, Indore, Mandla, Daltonganj, and Motihari, and conditions are favourable for its further advancement into parts of the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next 3–4 days.
According to the IMD, active monsoon conditions combined with El Niño are causing uneven weather across multiple regions. While heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim on Sunday, heatwave conditions persist in some pockets of north and central India, including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
The weather agency has cautioned that rainfall in the aforementioned northeastern and eastern regions could turn extreme in isolated areas. Residents are advised to stay updated with local warnings and take necessary precautions.
