Hygiene violations found at three Hyderabad eateries during inspections
Food safety officials from the municipal corporation conducted inspections at three eateries in Hyderabad on Wednesday, uncovering instances of unhygienic conditions, improper food storage, and use of expired ingredients. The authorities have issued improvement notices to the establishments and discarded unsafe food items on site.
At Antera Kitchen and Bar in Madeenaguda, the inspection team observed that water testing reports for water used in cooking and ice preparation were not available. Desserts, non-vegetarian food items, mushrooms, and chopped onions were stored without proper labels. Iron knives were noted in the food preparation areas. Mould growth was found on cauliflower and potatoes. The cooking oil used for French fries was deemed unsuitable for further use. Additionally, open dustbins were kept near operational areas.
At La Pino’z Pizza in Jubilee Enclave, inspectors found a cockroach infestation. Expired spice mixes, flavoured syrups, and bread items were discovered. Several food items were unlabelled or improperly stored. Inside a freezer that was under maintenance, microbial infestation was observed. Chicken was stored without adequate wrapping, and lizard droppings were noticed near the food storage area. Officials also found that vegetarian and non-vegetarian items were stored together in the same freezer.
At 10 Pounder Pizzeria in SMR Vinay Technopolis, the inspection team observed dust and cobwebs on internal fittings. The lower section of the freezer required better cleaning and maintenance. The establishment was advised to improve hygiene standards.
Municipal food safety teams routinely carry out such inspections across the city to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and safeguard public health. The establishments concerned have been directed to rectify the deficiencies within a stipulated time frame. Failure to comply may lead to further action as per the Food Safety and Standards Act.
