Hyderabad couple missing after alleged Switzerland trip; police probe ₹50-crore chit fund angle
A couple from Hyderabad has been reported missing after telling their daughters they were travelling to Switzerland for a holiday. Police are investigating the case, including allegations that the man may have been involved in a ₹50-crore chit fund scheme.
The couple, identified as P. Chandrashekar (51), a businessman, and his wife P. Swapna, residents of Cherlapally in Malkajgiri, were last heard from on June 22. According to a complaint filed by their elder daughter, the couple informed their two daughters, aged 23 and 21, that they were flying to Switzerland for a vacation.
The elder daughter, a software employee, told police that her mother called her while she was at work on June 22 to inform her about the travel plans. After she returned home later that day, her parents left for the airport. The couple maintained contact with their daughters initially, but later stopped responding to calls and messages. Both mobile phones are reportedly unreachable.
Cherlapally Police Inspector A. Sudhakar said investigators have not yet confirmed whether the couple actually boarded a flight or left the country. “It is not clear whether they travelled to Switzerland or not. The daughters have not provided any travel documents or itinerary to confirm the journey. We are investigating to ascertain their whereabouts,” he said.
Police noted that the couple shared very little information about their trip before leaving. The daughters do not know where in Switzerland they intended to stay or other details of their itinerary.
A missing person case has been registered. As part of the inquiry, police are also looking into Chandrashekar’s business dealings. There are allegations that he may have operated a chit fund scheme worth approximately ₹50 crore, promising high returns to investors before reportedly facing repayment difficulties. However, police clarified that no formal complaint of financial fraud has been lodged against the couple so far.
