Gun attack near Mexico’s Presidential Palace leaves one dead, two injured
One person died and two others were injured on Monday after a shooting in Mexico City near the Zocalo public square and the Presidential Palace, according to local authorities.
Mexico City’s Security Secretariat described the incident as a “direct attack”. A 42-year-old man was killed, and two 39-year-old men were wounded. The suspected attackers fled the scene on a motorcycle, and a police investigation is ongoing.
The attack occurred in Santo Domingo Square, an area surrounded by colonial-era buildings and known for the production and sale of false documents, local police said.
Although shootings are common in regions under the influence of narco-trafficking gangs, such incidents remain relatively unusual in the Mexican capital. Street gangs such as Union Tepito and Fuerza Anti-Union operate in the city, but violence of this nature near the seat of government is rare.
Authorities have not released a motive or identified suspects. The investigation continues.
