Gujarat clears 15-bed de-addiction centres in all 34 district hospitals
The Gujarat government has approved the establishment of 15-bed de-addiction centres in all 34 district hospitals, allocating ₹14.90 crore for the financial year 2026-27. The move is part of the state's 'Drug Free Gujarat' campaign.
According to government officials, the centres aim to provide accessible treatment and rehabilitation for individuals struggling with substance addiction. Previously, patients often had to travel to larger cities for specialised care; these centres will offer services within their own districts.
Each centre will provide scientific detoxification, de-addiction therapy, mental healthcare, family counselling, and rehabilitation services. Both inpatient (IPD) and outpatient (OPD) facilities will be available. Staff will include doctors, nurses, counsellors, psychologists, and other trained professionals.
To ensure transparency, medical equipment will be procured through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal. Implementation will be monitored via regular reviews, social audits, and third-party verification.
The government stated that the initiative complements ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug trade while expanding treatment facilities. It expects the centres to improve timely care, ease financial and emotional burdens on families, and support the goal of a drug-free Gujarat.
