GRH Madurai’s cath lab achieves 20,000 cardiac procedures milestone
Madurai: Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai has reached a significant milestone in cardiac care, with its cardiac catheterisation laboratory (cath lab) completing 20,000 procedures. The achievement was recorded last week, and a celebration was held at the hospital on Wednesday to mark the occasion.
The cath lab, equipped with a Philips Allura FD10 system, has been operational since 2017. Over the past nine years, the facility has steadily grown, serving patients from Madurai and neighbouring districts. The 20,000 procedures include diagnostic angiograms, angioplasties, pacemaker implantations, and other interventional cardiac treatments.
In a statement shared on the hospital’s official social media handles, GRH expressed pride in the milestone. “We are proud to celebrate 20,000 procedures completed at our Philips Allura FD10 Cath Lab from 2017–2026,” the note read.
The hospital credited its cardiology team for the achievement. “This reflects the dedication, expertise and teamwork of our Cardiology team, supported by our doctors, nurses, technicians and healthcare staff,” the statement added.
Doctors at GRH noted that reaching 20,000 procedures is a significant feat for a government hospital, as it reflects both the trust of patients and the sustained capacity of the institution to provide advanced cardiac care at no cost or minimal cost.
The cath lab has been pivotal in reducing the need for patients to travel to private facilities or larger metro hospitals for cardiac interventions. Over the years, it has also served as a training ground for postgraduate students in cardiology.
Hospital authorities said the milestone is not just a number but a marker of improved access to cardiac care for the region’s underprivileged population. They reiterated their commitment to continuing and expanding services in the coming years.
