Gold Seized from Aide of Arrested Former Trinamool Leader Sabyasachi Dutta
Bidhannagar City Police recovered over three kilograms of gold from the residence of a Zilla Parishad member in Tehatta, Nadia district, on Tuesday. The gold, valued at over ₹4.30 crore in the market, was found at the ancestral home of Tina Bhowmik Saha, who is believed to be close to former Trinamool Congress leader Sabyasachi Dutta.
Sabyasachi Dutta, a former mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation and ex-MLA, was arrested on June 8 on extortion charges. Earlier investigations had led to the seizure of about three and a half kilograms of gold from Dutta's flat and bank locker. Police sources indicate that Dutta allegedly used extortion money to purchase gold.
In a separate development, the district administration has ordered the demolition of an alleged illegal cafe owned by Irfan Molla, son of former Trinamool MLA Saokat Molla, within seven days. The structure is said to have been built on over seven acres of riverine land. Authorities have warned that if the demolition is not carried out by the owner, the administration will step in.
Saokat Molla was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a bomb blast in Bhanagar during the recent West Bengal Assembly election campaign. Since the change of government in West Bengal in May 2026, hundreds of Trinamool Congress leaders, including former MLAs and ministers, have been arrested in various cases.
