Food poisoning at Ayurvedic college hostel sickens 28 students in Andhra Pradesh
At least 28 students from Sri Venkateswara Ayurvedic College in Tirupati were admitted to TTD's Central Hospital on Monday, July 27, 2026, after experiencing symptoms of food poisoning. The students reported diarrhoea, nausea, and mild abdominal pain following a meal at the college hostel.
According to medical reports, three of the affected students were referred to the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) for further evaluation and were later sent home after their condition stabilised. Authorities confirmed that all students were in stable condition and responded well to treatment.
TTD's Joint Executive Officer, A. Sharath, visited the hospital on Tuesday, July 28, to review the care provided and interact with the students. He stated that the management had provided prompt medical attention as soon as the complaints were reported.
The Chief Medical Officer of TTD noted that the students were discharged after doctors confirmed their health was stable. The incident has raised concerns about food safety at the hostel, though no further complications have been reported.
Sri Venkateswara Ayurvedic College is run by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), a trust that manages the revenue of the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple. The TTD administration has assured that necessary steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
