Five Schoolgirls Hospitalised After PNG Pipeline Rupture in Bihar Muzaffarpur

Five schoolgirls fell unconscious on Friday (July 17, 2026) in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district after a gas leak from a PNG pipeline that was damaged during drainage construction work, officials said.

The incident took place at Rohua village under the Musahri block. The District Education Officer (DEO), Kumar Arvind Sinha, said that around 11 a.m., excavation work near a school caused a pipeline rupture, leading to a blast and a large gas cloud.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Anand Utsav confirmed that the girls inhaled the leaking gas and lost consciousness. They were initially taken to a nearby primary health centre, where four regained consciousness. One girl had minor complications, and all five were referred to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital as a precaution.

The victims include three girls from Class 9, one from Class 10, and one from Class 11, according to principal in-charge Someshwar Prasad.

An inquiry into the incident is underway, the SDM added.
