Fake godman gets triple life term for sexually assaulting minor sisters in Namakkal
A 55-year-old man, D. Sekar, was convicted and sentenced to triple life imprisonment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by a district court in Namakkal on Thursday evening. The court also imposed a fine of ₹6,000 on him.
Sekar, a resident of Mangalapuram in Namakkal district, posed as a spiritual healer. In 2020, a couple from Salem district sought his help to ‘remove evil spirits’ from their two daughters, aged 15 and 13. Under the pretext of performing a religious ritual, Sekar sexually assaulted both girls.
After the incident, the girls disclosed the abuse to their parents, who filed a complaint with the Mangalapuram police. The police registered a case under the POCSO Act. The trial was conducted at the District Mahila Court in Namakkal. The court found Sekar guilty and sentenced him to three concurrent life terms, as per legal provisions under the POCSO Act.
