Expired Bakery, Unhygienic Kitchens: FSSAI Fines 16 Eateries in NTR District
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) conducted raids on 16 food establishments in NTR district of Andhra Pradesh last week, seizing expired bakery products, stale non-vegetarian dishes, and other outdated items. Officials booked cases against the managements for selling stale and expired food products, operating without licences, and maintaining unhygienic conditions.
Raids were carried out at Penuganchiprolu, Vatsavai, Vijayawada, Jaggaiahpet, and other locations in the district. The Joint Collector of NTR district, S. Ilakkiya, imposed a total fine of ₹5.65 lakh on the offending establishments under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, according to Assistant Food Controller B. Srinivas.
Violations included running hotels, restaurants, bakeries, sweet stalls, tiffin centres, biryani points, and food courts in unhygienic conditions, as well as operating without proper licences from the Food Safety Department. Officials seized sample products and presented them before the Joint Collector's Court, which levied fines for possession of expired products and lack of FSSAI licences.
“We have seized the samples and produced them in the Joint Collector’s Court, which imposed fines for possession of expired products, running establishments without FSSAI licences and in unhygienic conditions,” Mr. Srinivas said.
