ED searches Kolkata aviation firm over alleged Rs 160 crore TMC fund link

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday conducted searches at five locations in Kolkata as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving an aviation company, Carewell Aviation.

The probe focuses on allegations that the company received Rs 160 crore from funds belonging to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party. According to sources, the money was allegedly used to purchase an aircraft and a helicopter.

The ED is examining the source and routing of these funds, which are suspected to have been unlawfully collected and diverted. The searches were carried out at the business premises and residences linked to the company and its directors.

The development comes amid a broader investigation by the central agency into alleged financial misconduct and money laundering involving political entities. No arrests have been made so far, and the company has not issued any public statement regarding the allegations.

The ED's actions are part of its mandate to investigate financial crimes under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
