Dr. N. Rajeeva Shetty, pioneering endodontist and former Karnataka DME, dies at 93

Dr. N. Rajeeva Shetty, a pioneering endodontist and former Director of Medical Education (DME) in Karnataka, passed away at his residence in Banashankari, Bengaluru, on the night of June 24. He was 93.

Dr. Shetty was a distinguished academician and one of the pioneers of endodontics in Karnataka. He held the distinction of being the first endodontist in the state and the first dentist in India to serve as Director of Medical Education. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to dental education, research, and healthcare administration.

He served as the principal of Government Dental College and Research Institute, Bengaluru, where he played a key role in strengthening dental education and advancing academic excellence.

In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Shetty received several honours, including the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), and the highest honour conferred by the Indian Endodontic Society.

He was widely respected by colleagues, students, and the medical fraternity for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to advancing dental sciences in India. His demise has been mourned by members of the medical and academic community across the country.

The funeral will be held at 12 noon at Banashankari crematorium in Bengaluru on June 27.
