Delhi Police Head Constable Killed in Hit-and-Run at Singhu Border
A head constable from the Delhi Police was killed on Wednesday evening after a speeding car hit him while he was on duty at the Singhu border in north Delhi.
The incident occurred around 6 pm under the Alipur Police Station area. Head Constable Amit, who was regulating traffic near the Delhi border, was struck by a vehicle that did not stop. The driver fled the scene, according to officials.
Colleagues rushed the injured constable to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela, where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival. The victim's body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
The Singhu border is a key entry and exit point on the outskirts of Delhi, frequently used by commuters and heavy vehicles. Traffic police personnel are often deployed there to manage congestion, especially during peak hours.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for causing death by negligence and hit-and-run. An investigation is underway to trace the vehicle and the driver. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
The incident highlights the risks faced by traffic police officers who work in challenging conditions on busy roads. The Delhi Police has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased constable and assured them of all possible support.
