Delhi minor's rape and murder: Accused reveals planning, police say
A 29-year-old cab driver, Bashu Kumar Singh, who has been arrested for the alleged rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in South Delhi, has told police that he waited for about 45 minutes before carrying out the crime, according to a police source.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday near a Metro station in South Delhi, where the girl was sleeping with her parents on a footpath. Singh, who has been in police custody for two days, reportedly revealed details of the crime during questioning.
Police said Singh claimed he was returning to Gurgaon after dropping a passenger when he saw the girl asleep with her family around 3:30 am. He then waited for what he considered the right moment to abduct her. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
The court has remanded Singh to police custody. Authorities are collecting evidence and recording statements. The case has drawn attention to the safety of vulnerable populations in urban areas, particularly children sleeping on streets.
