Delhi Liquor Shops to Close at 8 PM for Three Days Amid Protests
The Delhi Excise department has ordered all liquor shops in the city to close by 8 pm from Friday to Sunday, following a request from the Delhi Police Special Branch. The decision aims to prevent potential disturbances related to ongoing student protests.
Currently, liquor shops operate from 10 am to 10 pm. The revised timings took effect immediately, though a formal order is yet to be issued, according to a senior excise department official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“While students are protesting peacefully, some anti-social elements are trying to disrupt the protest by drinking and creating ruckus. As this can lead to untoward incidents, police requested us to revise the timings of liquor shops… it has been done,” the official said.
The police directive was communicated verbally, and all vends and corporations have been asked to comply. An official from one of the municipal corporations confirmed that the instructions were received and are being implemented immediately.
