Delhi LG Lays Out Roadmap for Tech-Driven, People-Centric Policing

Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, during his first visit to the Delhi Police Headquarters on Wednesday, outlined a comprehensive plan for proactive, technology-driven and people-centric policing in the national capital. Chairing a two-hour high-level review meeting with Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and senior officers, the LG emphasized several key areas for reform.

Among the priorities highlighted were strict action against reckless driving, integration of Artificial Intelligence for crime prevention, establishment of a community policing framework, increased representation of women in the force, and timely promotions for personnel. The meeting was attended by all Special Commissioners of Police, Joint Commissioners, and Deputy Commissioners of Police.

The LG stressed the need to leverage technology to enhance public safety and streamline traffic management. He called for a modernised approach that combines data analytics and AI to predict and prevent criminal activities. The community policing framework aims to build trust between the police and citizens, encouraging cooperation and information sharing.

Women's representation in the force was a key focus, with the LG advocating for greater inclusion to reflect the city's demographics and improve sensitivity in handling cases involving women and children. Timely promotions and welfare measures were also discussed to boost morale and efficiency within the force.

The meeting underscored the importance of a people-centric approach that addresses the concerns of Delhi's residents. The LG's directives come amid ongoing efforts to modernise the Delhi Police and improve its responsiveness to public needs.
