Delhi Labour Settlement Fire Near Udyog Bhawan: No Casualties Reported
A fire broke out on Wednesday evening in a labour settlement located near Udyog Bhawan in central Delhi, fire officials confirmed. The blaze, which began around 6:30 p.m., was contained within an hour and resulted in no injuries or fatalities.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, four fire tenders were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call. Firefighters managed to douse the flames by 7:30 p.m., preventing the fire from spreading to adjoining structures.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest an electrical short circuit may have triggered the incident, but officials have not yet confirmed this. The settlement houses migrant workers and their families, and authorities are assessing the extent of property damage.
Local police have cordoned off the area to facilitate the investigation and ensure safety. No arrests have been made. The Delhi government has assured assistance to those affected, with relief measures being coordinated through the district administration.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of informal settlements in urban areas, where cramped living conditions and inadequate fire safety measures increase risk. Officials urge residents to report any electrical hazards immediately.
