Delhi Government Set to Introduce Law to Regulate Coaching Centres, CM Rekha Gupta Announces

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday announced that the Delhi government will soon introduce a comprehensive law to regulate coaching centres operating in the national capital. In a video message, she stated that institutes failing to comply with mandatory safety norms will not be allowed to continue operations.

“One month. There is a time of one month, get all the safety regulations. All the coaching institutes running in Delhi, be it 900 or 1000, the number doesn't matter, what matters is the lives of the children studying there, their safety and security,” Gupta said.

The Chief Minister added that students can report any negligence or lack of safety measures in their coaching centres through email, message, or phone. The government aims to ensure stricter oversight, greater accountability, and enhanced student safety through the proposed law.

The decision comes in the wake of frequent fire incidents, including a recent fire at a coaching centre in Lucknow that claimed the lives of 15 people. Earlier this week, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood ordered a citywide safety inspection of coaching centres and indicated that a robust regulatory framework is under preparation.

Gupta reiterated that the Delhi government remains firmly committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of every student.
