Delhi Government Extends Slum Rehabilitation Cut-Off Date to 2025, Benefits 20 Lakh
The Delhi government has approved extending the cut-off date for eligibility in slum rehabilitation schemes to January 1, 2025, a move expected to benefit nearly 20 lakh people living in JJ clusters across the capital. The decision, taken at the 36th Board Meeting of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), aims to provide permanent housing for approximately 4-5 lakh families.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the revision, stating that eligible families will receive multi-storey flats with essential civic amenities such as Anganwadi centres, schools, health centres, and playgrounds. The government also plans to address family expansion by considering rehabilitation for members living in separate units within the same structure, subject to additional charges.
The policy aligns with the Delhi Slum and JJ Cluster Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy 2026 and a recent review meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The housing colonies will be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with the state and central governments coordinating efforts.
