Delhi: Four Women, Infant Rescued After Roof Collapse in Subzi Mandi
New Delhi: Four women, a five-month-old baby, and a pet dog were rescued on Thursday after the roof of a residential house collapsed in north Delhi's Subzi Mandi area. The incident occurred in the Malka Ganj locality, where the roof and the staircase leading to the first floor gave way, leaving the occupants stranded.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) deployed four units to the spot. Officials used safety belts and ladders to evacuate those trapped on the first floor. Among those rescued were a 40-year-old woman with a physical disability, the infant, and the pet dog. Visuals from the site showed the structure's outer walls standing while the roof had caved in. A DFS official was seen carrying the baby to safety.
In a separate incident, a fire broke out at an office in a multi-storey commercial building on Barakhamba Road on Thursday morning. Eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire was confined to a first-floor office containing electronic equipment and documents. The DFS received the call at 9.50 a.m. and doused the fire by 10.30 a.m.
The causes of both incidents are yet to be ascertained. No casualties were reported in either case. Authorities are investigating the structural integrity of the collapsed building and the cause of the fire.
