Delhi Fire Department Flags 450 Commercial Buildings for Safety Violations After Deadly Blaze

The Delhi Fire Department has identified 450 commercial buildings across the city that lack mandatory fire No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) or violate building by-laws. These establishments include hotels, restaurants, banquet halls, guest houses, hospitals, and nursing homes.

The action follows a devastating fire at a Bed & Breakfast in Malviya Nagar on June 3, which claimed 23 lives, including 13 foreign nationals. In response, the Delhi government formed district-level committees to inspect all buildings with six or more storeys (ground plus five floors) and assess compliance with fire safety norms and building regulations.

According to sources, the flagged buildings were identified during this city-wide survey. The findings highlight ongoing lapses in fire safety enforcement in the capital.
