Delhi CM visits Kanwar camp, assures devotees of hassle-free yatra
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday visited a Kanwar camp in Dilshad Garden, east Delhi, near the Uttar Pradesh border, and assured that the government has taken all necessary steps to ensure that Kanwariyas face no difficulties during the ongoing Sawan month.
The Chief Minister welcomed the devotees by showering flower petals and interacted with them to inquire about their journey and the arrangements at the camp. She said that during the month of Sawan, thousands of Shiva devotees travel on foot carrying holy water from the Ganges in Haridwar to reach their destinations and perform jalabhishekam of Lord Shiva.
“Every Kanwariya is revered and respected as an embodiment of Lord Bholenath, and this year, a large number of women are also participating in the Kanwar Yatra. The Delhi Government is striving to ensure that no devotee or camp encounters any difficulty,” she said.
Ms. Gupta said that the government is extending financial assistance, sanitation services, healthcare, traffic management, mobile toilets, and other essential facilities to Kanwar Seva committees. She added that the ongoing efforts across various locations in Delhi to serve and welcome Shiv devotees reflect a beautiful example of community service and religious devotion.
The Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage observed during the holy month of Sawan (Shravan), when devotees of Lord Shiva collect water from the Ganges and carry it to temples, often walking long distances. The Delhi government, along with other state administrations, sets up camps and provides logistical support to the pilgrims.
The Chief Minister's visit to the camp, located in a border area of the capital, underscores the administration's focus on ensuring smooth passage for the yatris. She also appreciated the work of volunteer organisations and Seva committees that have been assisting the devotees.
The visit comes at a time when the yatra is at its peak, with a significant number of devotees passing through Delhi. The government's measures include the deployment of traffic police, medical teams, and mobile toilets at key locations. These arrangements aim to provide comfort to the pilgrims while maintaining public order and hygiene.
The assurance from the Chief Minister is expected to ease concerns among the participating devotees and reinforce the administration's commitment to supporting religious and cultural practices. The government has urged all those involved in the yatra to cooperate with the arrangements and adhere to safety guidelines.
